MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Mountaineer Athletic Club (MAC) has announced the dates for the 2012 Coaches Caravan.
The caravan, an annual tour of the state, affords MAC members and Mountaineer fans the chance to meet, greet and visit with WVU coaches and administrators. All proceeds from the caravan benefit the WVU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the MAC’s scholarship fund.
This year’s tour opens on May 2-3. The caravan will first stop at the Oglebay Resort, in Wheeling, on May 2, before moving on to J.P. Henry’s in Parkersburg on May 3.
Legendary Oklahoma football coach Barry Switzer will be a special guest at both stops. Switzer, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, will welcome Mountaineer fans to the Big 12 Conference.
An event is scheduled for May 17, at the Clarion Hotel, in Shepherdstown, before the caravan closes with three stops on May 22-24. The group will first make an appearance at the Bridgeport Conference Center on May 22 and then move on to the Chuck Mathena Center in Princeton, on May 23. The caravan will conclude on May 24 at the Beckley Raleigh Co. Convention Center, in Beckley.
Texas Tech basketball coach Billy Gillespie is scheduled to make an appearance at the Princeton and Beckley stops. A three-time Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year, he is coming off his first season with the Red Raiders.
All events will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Individual tickets to each event at $50 per person and include admission to the event and dinner. Sponsorship opportunities also are available at each location.
